Birthday Boy

Today our boy is 4 years old. Really I don't know where the time has gone!  What a fun, adorable, handsome boy he is. Just a few of the things I love about this guy are: he loves to cuddle with me and talk, he always tells me "Mommy, I love you SO MUCH!",  and he has such joy in the little things.
Because this weekend is impossibly busy for both my family and Scott's we decided to have his party a week early.  Last Saturday we gathered at my parents house and had a little party for him. Nothing fancy. Just presents and cake and ice cream. He had some cousins there so he was happy.

His cousin reading his card out to him from Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson.

Cake time! Don't worry, at the end I'll explain this wacky thing! haha

For some reason David was refusing to smile for anyone, and instead made a very strange face(not pictured). Oh well.

Scott's older brother, his wife, and their twins...

So I started out with visions of an awesome 4 layers cake. It started out great. I got the cake baked and layered with frosting. It was sturdy and ready to go. Then I mixed the remaining frosting with whip cream. MISTAKE. I'm sure it helped that it had been in the freezer and so it kept seperating. I kept it cold and whipped it again once at my parents house, but as soon as I had put a bit on the top I knew there was no way I was putting it on the sides. It was liquid. So, I brainstormed and with much chearleading from the sidelines from my family, I think I made it work.  The top I already planned on doing like this. David asked for a car cake. But do you see the nasty frosting seperating on top?

I just drew cars on the side. I wish I was brave enough to fill them in, but the tip was so small I just didn't think it would look good.

When Scott saw what I was doing he asked if he could do the last car on the side(there were three). And yes, I went ahead and let him. But wasn't he so creative?  :) A semi truck! haha
So yeah, next time I will not be mixing whipped cream in my frosting!
